Aerial for IC-7300

Post by RobN »

My father has an IC-7300 but is unsure about which kind of aerial it needs. He wants to receive and transmit. I can't help him because I know nothing about this. Can anyone help?

Do we know what frequencies he wants to transmit/receive on ? Is it for the Ham bands or CB/11M ? And if so which ham/amateur bands would he like to transmit on ? Also will it be an outdoor antenna ? This would help us determine the suitable antenna for his needs.

He wants to talk with other hams around the world. I don't think he knows anything about the bands.

Different bands have different characteritics and require the antenna to be tuned for that frequency which is why it makes it difficult for us to recommend an antenna without the information.

However to begin with, the 20 meter band is the most popular ham radio band, it's quite simple to construct or buy a "20 meter dipole" for use on this band.

For a cheap start get CB antenna, tune to 10M and enjoy solar maximum.

HTF can you buy a 7300 and not know what type of antenna is needed to transmit on the bands you're interested in?

Is this a bad troll?
my friend grafter, seems like you are using a very offensive tone in the reply.

Actually I also agree, something like a Sirio gainmaster would be good for 10 meter band.
