Yaesu Ft 890 noise blanker fault..

Post by Raverrst »

Hi all, just received a Yaesu Ft 890 in need of some much needed love. One of the faults iv noticed is the Noise blanker is inoperative, the push button lights up when pressed however you rotate the control and it makes zero difference. Iv checked the wiring from the front panel through to the rf board all ok. Before I start probing is there any know faults?

Thanks for the reply, yes possible, as noted the press button on/off led does work when pressed so I assume that’s working, the rotatable min/max control also feels fine to turn, I will confirm correct operation..

Hello

page 15

Noise Blanker Setting
The noise blanker circuit in the FT-890 can
blank both wide and narrow pulse noise, and can
sometimes also reduce the level of static crashes
from electrical storms. The NB button/LED activates
the blanker, and remains lit while it is on. If
you hear pulse noise, just press the NB button so
that it lights, and turn the NB control clockwise
just until the noise is blanked. If the blanker
seems to distort a signal you're listening to, reduce
the setting for optimum readability.

Yes indeed read this from the user manual, as stated mine doesn’t appear to make any difference to any interference, be it plt, static noise etc Where’s my old 840 would reduce interference I get at my station. As also noted I’m not seeing any reference to adjusting/setting up procedure in the “service” manual 🤔
