Get dx10 instead if Yaesu is your thing.
If not, get 7300

Re: Yaesu FT-710 Advice
FTDX10 has a full triple superhet receiver, so is ooooober sensitive, but Yaesu put the price up, so I won't be buying one.
The full SDR of the 710 is a gadgety thing people like, but isn't necessarily better to have, though it's not at all a bad radio for the price, so it comes down to a difference of around £400 or so and what that difference is worth to you.

59 only? To each his own. I like EME for example.
I think you are exaggerating. Nice and shiny 7300 or 710 cost less than average one month salary, not mention peanuts cheap Chinese HT's.

As you said each to their own.
You're right about the cheap Chinese gear though, which also funny enough applies to some of the over priced gear as well in its place of manufacture.
I can think of much better things to splash out a hard earned months wages on.

Re: Yaesu FT-710 Advice
I've looked at the Yaesu 710 myself - looks like a cracking radio.
If someone is looking for a sub 1000 pound Amateur radio like I am, it's seems stupid to recommend a radio that costs nearly double the price bar a few hundred pound.
Am I missing something here, the 710 looks like the best entry level radio ever.
It can be had for just over 800 UK pounds, I realise it won't do 2m or 70cm, is that a problem ?
