hey all, has anyone got any experience of using an x30 / x50 on 446? Im in the market for a dual bander but would like 446 coverage too so any advice welcome. cheers!

None, but I've been thinking of getting the Sirio mentioned in the last post in the link for homebase. PMR only though.

cheers both, ive ordered an x30 so will report back when i get it up. i have a nano vna so will do a sweep and see what it looks like. chatting to a few of the locals they seem to use them on 446 and think they are alright so fingers crossed!

It should work very well. Also, the advantage of using low power (500mW ERP) is that effects of SWR mismatch will be less damaging. Recall, SWR is a ratio. On the whole, a 3:1 mismatch at 500mW will have significantly less reflected power than a similar mismatch at 5W.

All the 'white stick' antennas have a decent wide coverage at UHF any in the range will do what you want, from experience though some are manufactured better than others. I've had cheap clones that worked but build quality showed after a couple of years, just replaced a WATSON W-300 clone as the base had broken after 2 years, put up a DIAMOND V-2000 these pics might give you some reassurance ;)

x30 gives me an SWR of 1.7 with 40W
