Channel 0 hardly any white noise

Post by yagiman »

Dear forum members I own a A O R a r 8600
And after a magnificent tasking start from Humber m r c c
I opened squelch right to the bottom .
And extremely strange weird the white noise
Volume sound was hardly there .
I’m no electronics engineer 👨🏽‍💻.
But I’m guessing on no set there should allways
Be plenty of noise volume when opening the squelch

Some radios esp the Chinese often have that problem with a load of noise on 156.0mHz... even my Jap made FT60 suffers with it..

It’s often not the radios. There IS lots of noise on 156.000 MHz! In my work van are two marine radios, and as you drive along roads, suddenly they might burst into life as you go past certain houses, or roadside metal boxes, or sometimes even other vehicles. These radios are silent with no antenna connected, but some much stuff produces crud on Ch 0. In the office I had to find a new power supply for my internet hub. The supplied one had awful noise on 0. The replacement one didn’t. Switch mode power supplies can be terrible noise sources.
