Superstar 360 AM/SSB
Hi TM1 peeps.
I've just bought this radio as a non-worker on e-blag and fired it up. It lights up which is a good thing, but I have a few queries. I did a search but couldn't find the relevant info.
Firstly, it has a 5-pin mic' socket on it (not a DIN). Is that correct for this particular radio for a start?
Next - using my Midland handheld on mid-block FM, I don't get any signal coming through whatsoever, the meter is "dead". So....does this radio need a mic' to be plugged in before it'll receive anything at all or is something amiss?
Last bit, what type of mic' did these come with in the box, was it a Robin Reliant-type or a coffin mic' as found on the GTL-DX's? I've found out a 5-pin.mic' plug out and would like to have the correct mic' on it as I'm fussy
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave.
Yes. It needs a correctly wired 5 pin mic fitted for it to RX. Same as the Cobra 148 GTL , Madison etc.
Pretty sure it came with the coffin style. At least the ones I picked up had that style.

Re: Superstar 360 AM/SSB
You can use a 5 pin microphone wired up with only one ground, but it really does matter which ground you use on the radio. One works well, the other buzzes a lot (from memory).

Re: Superstar 360 AM/SSB
Ah, thanks Sammy and Tim. Nice pictures there too, thanks Claude. I'd love the boxes for my SS's! Got this one, a normal 360fm and the stealth version, all unboxed..sob sob.
I thought I recalled something about certain radios needing a mic' plugged in to RX, but as my memory is like a sieve at times, I couldn't be sure that I was right. Same with the 5-pin socket. Didn't want to change it to a 4-pin if all's as it should be but 99% of the info I found pertained to the 360fm.
I have a Superstar mic' with the black background I bought for a fiver a couple of months ago on ebay, but I think that's from the 2000 series radios. I'll keep a look out for a normal one then, thanks.
Once I get one, I might be back for some wiring advice I've got some charts from the 80's that I kept, but the AM/SSB version isn't on them, but I'll have a look online in the meantime.
Cheers

Re: Superstar 360 AM/SSB
So, 5 wires - okeydokey, thanks. I'll have a look amongst my spare mic's and see if any have got 5 wires, especially any coffin mic's. I can always swap just the front over if I get a branded one at a later stage
