Avonmouth / Portbury Docks

Post by bigbloke »

It seems the "First shipping" licences used at Avonmouth / Portbury docks for many years have fallen silent
(they were all analogue)

Looks like the legacy systems have been replaced by 2 separate supppliers (Radiocomms and Affini) with some
badly chosen (due to location) frequency allocations undertaken by OFCOM (bless 'em - when are they going to start
mandating colour codes in a given area ?! )

Affini appear to cover Avonmouth
radiocomms appear to be doing Portbury

Portbury appears to be a 2 site DMR / CAP + (2 chan + 6 chan) but there are many other systems on the same frequency and
colour code.

I suspect (but cannot confirm) that radiocomms <<may>> have partially borked the CAP+ systems as well as the rest channel "hops"
dont seem to be running properly!

Regards

MUCH more to this than meets the eye!

it seems they have moved to DMR, presumably had some problems with co channel etc (some REALLY daft allocations by OFCOM given the territory) and have moved some of the CAP+ repeaters back onto First corporate shipping frequencies.

We now believe this is a 2 site (9+9 channel) system and are slowly filling the gaps , but with SO much QRM from other users its hard work ! but a fun jigsaw puzzle!

thanks are due to my partner in crime "servia" (dont think hes a member here)

regards
