President Madison homebase CB serial numbers

Post by 108EH002 »

After having a look on TM1,I cannot find a list for the serial numbers for the President Madison homebase.I picked up a Madison today (cheers Mr Psychopath) and the serial number of my radio is 03001805,and was manufactured in Taiwan R.O.C,the radio has been sent to Nick-Black Spirit already and it is spot on.The radio has 03 at the start like my original Grant, does this mean it was manufactured in 1980 aswell ? Thanks in advance.
Plenty are talking worldwide on 27.555 usb,
Some are too far up their own @rse to admit it,
Many happen to know otherwise dx-ing test free,
Showing a complete lack of respect for the law.

I have a Uniden badged Madison here. Currently in its box in a cupboard. I'll dig it out and post the serial number for reference.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Me too Andy . Got the old analogue clock one , and a later US Uniden badged digital clock one . Put a 220V transformer in it and changed the clock to 50hz (instead of 60hz) . Did the "pop" mod as well . Great radios , and good looking too

I have a Uniden President Madison, I believe it is the 1st generation. It has only the 3 led lights and 4 pin microphone jack. I am trying to figure out the serial number, it is YY 00001529. Trying to figure out what year and any other information about it.

Thank you

Is yours a President , or a Uniden ? The Uniden badged one has a digital clock . Don't think I've ever seen a Uniden Madison with 3 LEDs . The old analogue clock President one has 3 leds . Not sure if you can upload images yet as you've only posted once .

I have a first gen Madison, serial ending in 4680, which is later number than yours. 3 LEDs and a 4 pin mic jack. Pretty safe to say yours is a first gen as well. The first gen Madison is built on the Uniden 858 chassis. The year made is going to be 1977 or 78. Uniden only made the uPD858 PLL based chassis for about two years or so. You can "thank" the FCC in the USA for that.

More info on the 858 chassis in general: https://unit399.wixsite.com/858ssb

Sam's CB-179 has schematics and alignment info. Should be available on eBay, but I can't guarantee that.

If you haven't done so already, or had your tech do it, please change the tantalum capacitor C179 to a 2.2uF 25V electrolytic. It's usually a little blue guy near the relay. When the tantalum cap fails it tends to go boom. I have had this cap fail in a radio. It did explode. It did throw shrapnel around the inside of the radio. It did leave marks on the inside of the case. I'm not the only person to have seen this.

Thank you for your information. So far I have tested it, it does transmit & receive, I’ve only had it on for a short of time. There is no noise in any of the pods, the meters work as well the clock. The layout of the back is different from the manuals I have found on line. Also it looks like someone has added a round 10 pin connector on the back. I will post photos as soon as I am allowed to.

The year of these ones can be determined from the Control number sticker. 83 = 1978 Taiwan.
