Network Radio - Battery/Data Use

Anyone tell me how the battery performs on the Inrico T320? When I run Zello on my iPhone the battery gets zapped.

Also, be interested to know the data usage, looking at 3G and just interested in consumption on general receive maybe for a couple of hours a day (average).

Cheers

Sam

If you're on an iphone, go into settings and select battery, that will give you a list of the highest battery killing apps for the past 24 hours

remember, its not really radio, so it will be constantly talking to the server when using the app, whether talking to someone or not, so the data will get hammered. I think you can reset your data usage stats on the iPhone too, as a quick and dirty way to get an idea of data usage on the Zello app.

and I'd still contest that Zello, when used with an app or through a web browser, isn't really radio. It's more VoIP :-p

Cheers. Yeah I know its going to do the battery in on the iPhone, that's why I was looking at the T320. I've tried the data usage stats but it's all the other bits that run in the background, let alone the need for work apps and VPN which can really turn off.

The VOIP thing is a whole debate in itself and one I'm not going to prompt   what I would say is that it's a whole load better than

Zello is actually meant to use very little data, since it uses a fairly low bitrate voice codec. Not ridiculously low like Codec 2, but still pretty low.

According to this page it uses only 20KB per hour when idle, and for audio it varies but uses a maximum of 45 Kb/s (b for bits, not B which is for bytes) and as low as 12kb/s on a low speed connection like GPRS.
https://support.zello.com/hc/en-us/arti ... e-app-use-

At 45 Kb/s (if my calculations are correct) you could talk continuously for almost 3 minutes and that would use up about 1 MB of data, and that's on Wifi. On a mobile network I think it would switch to a lower bitrate so you could talk for even longer before using up 1 MB.
