Airport Rebroadcast

Post by spykeboi »

Afternoon,

I am able to listen to Edinburgh Airport rebroadcast on my UV-5R, but why do they rebroadcast of NFM?

I always thought the airband was on AM frequencies?

If you are talking about a transmission on UHF (typically around 455 MHz), it is to allow the tower to communicate with airport vehicles and staff (for example when crossing the runway). UHF walkie talkies having a much shorter antenna and thus being more convenient to use.
