OFCOM in the Midlands having a crackdown?

Post by 26TM944 »

Hi all,

Anyone know any of the people who have had an OFCOM visit and have been nicked and/or cautioned?

Apparently along with some regular CBers an M3 and an M6 along with a 2E0 have had visit(s) and were found to be using equipment on 11m that they should not have been and have had the hardware confiscated and are currently going through the process of the courts?

And to those who thought that there were no longer any band police ... seems there is, and they are active!

We'll have to see what happens. There has always been purges from time to time. The question is why them, unlucky to be on at the wrong time, reports and complaints, too many watts and too much spurious emissions??

Maybe someone in that area was causing interference so they did a sweep.

Is there anything documented about it, or is this just rumour?

What sort of fine/penalties are usually given out if you happen to get caught doing something naughty?

Fines? Don't know but equipment can be seized and if installed in a vehicle, the whole mobile station can be seized (Yes the car as well)

They've been in Leicester for several weeks now, I know of three M3's that's been visited and had kit taken but that was 446, OK Ham kit programmed for 446, I've spoken to them myself, but they're obviously widening their net on the lookout for 'pirates'. They didn't seem bothered about CB gear though and left that alone even after seeing it, and yes they were 'export' models. Strange

Not sure; heard it being discussed today by someone reading one case from a paper from the Midlands who'd known of more recently in a "purge".

That is all I know I am afraid.

Didn't someone say B&Q were using Baofengs on 446 or was they on their own business frequency.

I can confirm they left cb gear here when I had a visit including a colt Excalibur and a Jumbo that were here for repair. Also at the time I had an anytone 5555 and zetagi 131 all wired up and ready to use.

They picked the colt up and looked and commented it has ssb but left them and took my boafeng for using frequencies I wasn't supposed to be. Still waiting on a decision to prosecute or not but others that were using 446 have had to sign radios over.

Are you a licensed ham, were you on the radio just before they called, what kind of warrant did they produce.
