It's a toughie . I am still a big GRANT fan Simon , but nowadays it's probably between the 148 GTL , Cobra 2000 GTL , or the ADAMS . That big crystal RX SSB filter on the older Uniden radios really makes them a joy to use .

That's only because he doesn't own a Fidelity 1000 ;)

I have had a 148GTL and an Adams. Not a 2000GTL though.

I still prefer the Grant. I would put the Richard (Black Uniden variant) a close second.

To be honest I'm not sure if there's a great deal of difference between the 148 GTL and 2000 GTL . I remember someone brought in a sales brochure for one during one of our PY radio meetings back in the mid 80s , and I fell in love with the thing on the spot . I stuck a Maurer mod in mine , so it covers everything it needs to .

Only have 3 radios in 2 cars now, sold most of the others over the last few years. Have a gme uhf and a cobra 148-DX in the landcruiser, and a courier gladiator (early uniden ssb with backlit dial channel selector) in the gmh van. Gladiator is my fav but its too big to fit in the landcruiser daily driver. Had a bearcat 980 in it but radio was junk compared to the old unidens.

Drew you have had a clear out, or did you just need the extra space for the ham gear.
Kill em all and let god sort them out.

Generally I have too many.I'm not a collector as such but I am a hoarder. Matters not my hobbies are varied I tend to go from one to another then back again full circle.
I'm not technical which guys me but I love old radios, the small when used .the fact they run 40 years after production often looking scrap dented scruffy rusty or covered in bacon egg and fat stinking fags.

Not sold a few in 35 years I can think of.most are bought cheap, boots marketplace so on.
Love them all for different reasons but have a thing for older a.m am.fm jobs pre 81.
But
Got some new ,Stryker 955 hp
Alinco dx10 I like
Ss6900n
Harrier xxx
Rotel 240
Few colt am.fm
Old Midlands
Could I pick just one nope.
Not interested in value but I have a idea.I don't sell what I love & that's them all.
Great feeling saving a old radio from some scrap box at boot

Always changing….. Aside from Amateur stuff :-

President Grant 2 Premium
President Washington (8719)
Lafayette afs-1005
Westland 707
Magpie Autoscan 5000
Realistic trc-2001

And about a dozen various base mics …. Mainly Astatic.

I’ve cleared loads out even once again my Adams which I swore I never would (again) ;) ..

Out of all the radios that have come and gone I rate the President Grant 2 Premium very highly… it’s the only ‘newer’ radio I have held onto and moved out the McKinley,ss9900,6900…etc..in preference… To my ears a lot of radios just don’t pick up what the Grant does .. I can’t fault it…. Old school radios went too.. Adams , Richard , GE Superbase , Colt Black Shadow… and loads more ..At the moment the only radio that I seem to keep is the Grant and the Magpie for sentimental reasons.

No doubt the line up will continue to change as the amount I have at any one time can only be limited as I have my shack in a small section built in my garage…

All items are complete with boxes etc which as we know means they work better… ;)
