What board is inside it? Is it 879AA or 879AB?

as an aside to the oldest Cobra 148GTL-DX, how about the cleanest?, could this be a candidate for that award perhaps? Dragged out of a box of miscellaneous items from a house clearance sale by a friend. Factory standard, never been modded in the slightest way whatsoever. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's a book for you to read!

That is really tidy.
I had an exceptionally clean 360FM not long back, probably in a similar condition to that.

Due to needing a bit of cash I sold it. :(

Candidate yes. Winner?

Sadly not. I happen to own THAT Cobra 148 GTL-DX. It's a new old stock radio that's had no more than 15-20 minutes use ever. Everything is like brand spanking new, even the box. All original accessories still sealed in bags. Manual and additional paperwork crisp and new. The bracket has never been removed from the radio. It's exactly as it was packed in around 1980/1981.

A few pictures.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the significance of the rig having the AA PCB? I thought that the AA was the MK1 and the AB was the MK11? If the AA board was fitted in the MK11 that suggests that the serial numbers do not run concurrent with production.

The MK1 had the PC879 AA/AB PCB. The MK2 had the PB010 AA/AB PCB.

The AB MK2 are by far the most common. The AA (early MK2) are less common. There are a few small differences between the two, but nothing major and both work extremely well.

Mk1 had pc879 mk2 had pb-010. PB 010AA is still a mk2.

Some mk1's did have serial numbers starting 130 as well.
