iv had the dx 27 in the past and yes it was good before that i had the dv 27 and no that was not any good but am now using a steell 2 part 1/4 wave whip in my loft stuck out through a tile and its around 35 feet in the air and it works better than anything iv tried and works great when i kick 200 watt into it

I had a dx27 on a biscuit tin in the loft in the 80s. It was probably the best loft antenna I ever had and I wish I'd kept it. I'm considering going back to CB and loft antenna is my only option at the moment. The dx absolutely kicked arse.

The spec looks slightly short of the top of the UK 40:
"Frequency range: 26.7 … 27.7 MHz Tunable"
Channel 40 = 27.99125mhz
