Re: digital scanner
The cheapest digital scanner is a usb SDR dongle and digital decoding software like DSD+ plug in for sdr#
but it requires a fair amount of effort and a pc to get it all working. If you are not very computer savvy you may struggle.
Apart from that its £700+ for a decent digital scanner, and programming software as well.

Re: digital scanner
Showing my digital ignorance: are Malahit, Belka and the like digital receivers or software-defined analog receivers?

Software defined analog receivers however if the software is updated maybe it can support decoding of digital modes

Re: digital scanner
Many thanks, that is helpful. If I want to chase digital i won't be putting my money into the wrong thing. For HF I may as well stick with my Tecsun PL-660.

Re: digital scanner
There's another alternative, you can buy a cheap (around £70-100) DMR transceiver that is capable of being flashed with the OPENGD77 firmware, this would in essence give you a scanner that can automatically detect colour code & talkgroup on a given frequency, this can then be saved as a memory in the radio.

Re: digital scanner
That sounds neat. I'll say this for China - there's massively more options these days thanks to them

Re: digital scanner
Not sure where those astonishing prices have come from. Unidens new BCD160 digital set is available for about £200 if you import one from the US although I am told that UK suppliers are putting a substantial mark up on that sum.
