Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
I got one yesterday, I guess it's 'cause they changed the regs. I got one for my intermediate licence back in March as well, which I thought was strange at the time.
The perfect face for radio.

Hmm, l'm just thinking it's a bit security lax, as the email had my licence and the covering letter for as attachments. Thinking it would have been more correct to just email advising to do an account log in and view instead.

They always email your amended licence, or even send it in the post if you haven't got an email address registered with them.

Don't recall getting them for changes in the regs before....
and I certainly didn't 'request' any ammendment so the wording of the mnailing is untruthful.

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
When statutory instruments or terms reflected in them change, they must do it in the change. It used to be in the licence. Changes had to be published in the London Gazette, and notified in writing. I dont see the big deal? Theres no security issue?

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
The wording is truthful, as all licences have been ammended following the consultation last year. Such changes include higher power limits and the operation of beacons etc........

Ofcom don't send mails and ask you to log in - I think licence variations have to use an official deliver to the premises notification. I'm not why it's a big deal?

"Dear xxxxxx,
In response to your recent request....."
I did not make any request, ergo, the wording is untrue

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
My fault with the topic wording, should have put email and mail shots.
No big deal, my small concern is about emailing documents as attachments with personal information on them really. I know 'snail mail' can be delivered to wrong addresses as well so not much difference security wise there I guess, but with email l just think it would be better to notifiy paperless option licence holders to log into their licence regarding important changes. If that's not their policy though then it's not.

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
Yes, how it was worded at the begining made me wonder "what request?" because l knew l hadn't made one so confused me a little at first until l read the letter. l see your reasoning of the wording as being untrue in that sense also because a request wasn't in fact made personally to Ofcom.
Think it's a case of generic letter templates being used.

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
Ok retract what we've all said, and contact them and say what request? Ironic that for a communications post the vital bit got lost.

Re: Ofcom mass mail shots (UK)
I got the same a few months ago. I just ignored it as I thought it was probably a response from when I renewed my license. I didn't really understand it.
