I suggest if you can't find the issue then sell it or sell it regardless. Get an AnyTone AT-5555. I find that the Cobra rigs aren't that good and always get faults.

I'd sent it off to Black Spirit and let him sort it. I have C148s and an AnyTone AT-5555, and if I could keep only one it would be the C148.

Sounds like a possible regulator issue . Check the voltage on TR51 . On AM/FM you should have around 5V on the collector .

guys thanks for the replies it was indeed the voltage reg. this mk2 cobra has had the regulator mod's done so the 1012 is not tr51 anymore its inplace of
tr50 iirc.
however it was still the 1012 that had gone duff.

OHHHH and there is zero way i would choose a at5555 over a gtl dx mk2. nooooooo wayyy

i also have a mk2 president madison here that i wouldn't put a at5555 in its place the madison hears alien lifeforms from another dimension
and is a factory am/fm with a mid/hi/uk40 mod pcb in there

 Considering Cobra 148's are between 30 to 40 years old they're going to have faults. Modern SMT and menu driven radios are, well nice and modern, but they have no class like the old school and lead soldered stuff.
