If you've still got the manual could you please email a copy. PM sent.

If you're interested in a couple of wee mods the here goes. The ukfm as you know is crudely synthesized using an extra wafer on the channel switch and a bank of crystals.

I removed the band switch and replaced it with a rotary switch with more poles. i then removed all the ukfm crystals bar the highest frequency one. i replaced them with the standard loop mix crystals as used on many other multiband radios. The wires were unsoldered from the channel switch and soldered to the new rotary switch to give LLL to HHH and ukfm ch 1 to 45. Yes you need to add the alpha channels to get all the ukfm and you need to remember to count when going through the uk40.

I didn't broadband mine and it started to seriously drop off from about 24 on the LLL and about 18 on HHH.

Got a fair few contacts on 26.555 on both AM and FM. yes 26.555.

Nice one Bob

Been looking for a cheap boxed one myself for a little while too (just because it's got the, ahem, 27/81 stamp on). Did you get it off ebay or elsewhere as a matter of interest?

I have one where the Tx cuts out if you're on FM and you talk too loud. I have no idea whet that is about, maybe one day I'll investigate.

Most of my radios are that way. ;) I think it's me.

Had a bit more of a play with it earlier this evening. Had a natter with Andy from Kettering. I was using a very old Turner 'Road King 76' mic on it, and supposedly the audio was 'very good'. I think it's "Wheelbender" who expressed a liking for the choosh choosh sound of a Madison channel knob - well he'd really like the Commtron. That has a real Fooot Fooot sound to it up and down the channels !
They're fun radios, that drip nostalgia, but it's back in the box for a bit now.... there's only so much Nostalgia a guy can take in a day! ;)

There's nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia ;)

I took my spare Fidelity 3000 Homebase to a car boot sale this weekend gone in Redditch near Birmingham, to help sell a couple of Stinger/Springer/Orbitor type magmount aerials I have knocking about doing nothing that I bought for literally pennies. With the tattiest aerial sat on a satellite dish and the Fidelity running off a spare battery and an invertor, it picked up a guy from Stafford somewhere on UK channel 35 who was coming over on a good 7 pounder, radio 4. Someone said he was about 30 miles away from us. He was talking to a guy from Corsica I think it was who was just making the needle move. I had quite a few people come over whilst it was blaring out the copy and say the usual "Ohh look, there's a CB!" and start chatting fondly about their radios in the past. Must say, what a lovely soft non-popping or clunking squelch the Fidelity has... probably the only good thing about it apart from it's great reception  I did have a couple of offers for the radio (which I didn't really want to sell anyway, but none for the cheap aerials. Oh well :)

I know this is an old post but do you still have the schematic for CXX? Ive just been given a unit with some very strange faults. Going to change the electrolytic caps but also noticed there was a wire off on one of the crystals. needs a good clean and service. Thanks

I know this is random, but it's something I worked out a while back so I thought I would put it up here:
---------------------------------------------------
X401 is 15.810MHz and adjusts the Hi band.

These are the Xtals and the UK channels that will change when you adjust them

Xtal UK Channels Xtal Freq

X402 1-3 15.99625 MHz
X403 4-7 15.98625 MHz
X404 8-11 15.97625 MHz
X405 12-15 15.96625 MHz
X406 16-19,24,25 15.95625 MHz
X407 20-22, 26-40 15.94625 MHz
