26.285 USB
Do many people monitor this old calling frequency anymore? I have started using it again and had some good contacts down there. Nice to get away from the madness of 555

Facebook? No no no. I have been using 26.285 quite a bit lately with cracking results. Every time I put 555 on some mongo is blasting music so thats probably why everyone is heading down there.

Re: 26.285 USB
I have called and listened quite a few times in the last week and not heard anything yet mainly during the daytime hours. Will switch on again today and put out a few calls from Northants/Warwick border. Here's hoping.

Re: 26.285 USB
Back in the 90's 26.285 would be as busy as 555. But the major benefit was having more channels to move onto. With 555 you hit the bottom of the UK 40 after 40khz so you were limited. Whereas with 285 you had the whole band.
I have to say I much preferred the DX down there. I'll certainly have a listen when the propagation is next in.

Re: 26.285 USB
I spend more time down there now because 555 has gone really bad. Music players and people whistling all the time. Plus the local bone heads by me shouting QRZ over and over again or giving the mic to his grand daughter so she can mess about on there. Im ranting again
Lets keep 26.285 alive.

Re: 26.285 USB
I did wonder if there was an unofficial CB QRZ page because so many people shout it not just in this country either. Some very good operators on CB tho, I expect there are a lot of Hams using CB as well as the clueless bone heads and crack pots.NightProwler wrote: ↑11 Oct 2024, 14:18 I spend more time down there now because 555 has gone really bad. I've never given 26.285 much thought. I'll listen out on there some time.

Re: 26.285 USB
Back in the day it was always channel 50 (27.525). When I made a bit of a comeback just over a decade ago I wondered what all this 'triple five' nonsense was all about and what had happened to the old 'five zero'. And it's not just me, another old mate that got married and moved away nearly forty years ago, came back and got in contact with me when his wife passed away five or so years ago was also wondering what had happened to channel 50 and why it had all changed to channel 52 (27.555) when he got set up again. Channel 50 or 10 and channel channel 52 or 12 depending how your rig is set up. I'm a firm believer in CB radios for CB and ham radios for ham radio. I don't personally like ham radio transceivers on 11 metres, but I fully understand that these are what many folk use...I'm just 'old school' and like doing it the way we did it back in the 'AM' CB days - I don't operate anything new or modern.

Re: 26.285 USB
Definitely worth checking out 26Mhz
The old calling channel 26.285 USB (Channel 19 super low) suffers from interference from CODAR/OTHR so the 26Mhz group has their own calling frequency on 26.385
The band is a pleasure to use compared to the madhouse around triple 5
