Plymouth Air Safety

Post by tomed »

I came across this frequency this afternoon 3924 usb. After monitoring it only for a15 mins there was quite a lot of activity. From what i could gather it is the frequency for plymouth air safety. Any info regarding this frequency would be much appreciated. It was coming in quite strong (into North Wales) at 20 over 6...Thanks in advance.

A good find tomed.

I tried it for a while last night, and got some interesting conversations.

Just switched on again 20 minutes ago and got something along the lines of :

"Delta-something-or-other this is Plymouth Air Safety. Your rendezvous with Sierra-whatever brings you in line with a live firing exercise, suggest you reconsider. Over"

Definately a freq for fans of Kinloss Rescue.

Regards,
S.

Fost Kilo control is active most days on 5206 usb and RN ships calling plymouth on 2487 so they might be worth putting in your radio

Thanks for those as well, might be interesting, I like monitoring Kinloss, so these might be of interest to me.

Is Plymouth Air safety silimar to Kinloss with regards to the responsibilities Kinloss has? I.e SAR ops?
Also what is 'fost' by the way?

plymouth air safety don't deal with SAR their main responsability is to provide safe transit through or near the plymouth and surrounding danger areas. they work in conjunction with plymouth mil radar and give weather info to RN ships and military aircraft.

FOST stands for Flag Officer Sea Training theres more about it on the mod website http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/training-an ... -training/
FOST involves exercises which are usually carried out on thursday so its known as the "Thursday War" however they seem to carry out fost operations most weekdays. RNAS Culdrose plays a big part in the training with the use of their black Bae Hawks simulating air/air combat. you may want to try the Culdrose Ops Primary HF freq which is 5725 USB and quite active during the daytime.
