Don't talk to me about antennas boy, Just Don't

Post by Buick Mackane »

I'm utterly sick of them, They gee me the dry boke :x

Me and antennas don't see eye to eye, Here's the story

Just over a year ago i made my first outside antenna a EFHW, Cobbled together with junk and speaker wire, Worked great, 1.1 SWR on all bands, Around xmas it developed an intermittent fault where the RX Would drop out, After keying up the RX Would pop back in. So whipped it down and discovered water in the enclosure, So repaired it and replaced the speaker wire with proper polyweave antenna wire, All good except the SWR is slightly higher on 20-10m compared to the speaker wire, Go figure.

Recently made a 64.1 unun as an experiment, But wasn't happy with the results, So swapped back to the 49.1 unun, Now the above fault has returned :x :x , Sick hanging out the window messing with it, Arms are killing me

Tried another 49.1 that i made but that won't tune on 10m,

I Think i know where the bad connection is, I looped the wire round a pole to support it and clamped it with one of those choc block things, Think iv'e breached the plastic coating on the polyweave and its corroded, I Thought that stuff was stainless.

I should have left it alone

Antennas is it ? Ye kin ram thum richt up yer shonker boy, There ye are!!!!!!!!!!

keep us update though. I have a similar issue with my own home-brew End-fed, were VERY occasionally it will tune on 80 and 160, but most of the time it doesn't want to know

Strange one craig, Need to think about that one

Are you tuning it via an ATU ? And does it have a counterpoise wire ?
