i have a self made issue with my 2830
it was working fine until i was doing the signal diode mod's around the main pcb
and the 47n to 10n cap on the fm board i reassembled the radio and found i had fm rx but heavily distorted as if it was on AM
i checked my work and noticed the 10n cap had shorted to the 10k surface mount resistor R416 just to the side of it
would this poss cause the fm if chip on the fm pcb to be damaged and cause this issue..??
i have checked everything else including changing the 10k resistor to a new one..
hopefully attached is the pb119aa circuit showing which pcb i have

Re: uniden 2830
The 2830 are known for bad electrolytic caps. Check C405 the 47uf cap on the FM board. In later revisions it was was replaced with a 220uf. Also check the FM discrimination coil on the FM Board.
All in all the Diode mods are useless. Same with the 2sc2999 mods. Most times it reduces RX sensitivity which shows less noise on S-Meter. It does not reduces any noise.

My Marconi usually shows a minimum 5dbm gain with those mods.13EL121 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2023, 08:58 The 2830 are known for bad electrolytic caps. Check C405 the 47uf cap on the FM board. In later revisions it was was replaced with a 220uf. Also check the FM discrimination coil on the FM Board.
