Re: Crt6900/kpo5000
Personally I wouldn't touch any of them.
So many reasons but all around reliability and usability.
I'd spend my money on a SS 9900 unless you could get 6900/5555/5000/DX10/DX35 etc for less than £50

The blue display on the 6900n looks the best. I know someone who has two and he has not had any issues.
The one to avoid is the CRE-8900/DR-135/DX-10 whatever it is now called. I have had four and all of them had issues with the displays and backlighting.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

I've got a 9900, it does get hot if you don't keep an eye on the power on FM.

It's always best practice to run these at a low output on FM. But a lot of folk just leave them set at maximum so they can "get out better". Maybe they will if at least for a short time. 2 - 3 Watts into a half decent linear will get you out perfectly fine and will save the finals.Tin soldier wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 14:40

I have an old MK1 9900. It's still going strong and hasn't needed any work doing. I also have the newer 10/11/12 metre model and the same can be said for that.
I do like the 6900N's. But not the very early revisions as they were plagued with issues. The V6 is a safe bet. The new 6900V is also a good radio with a new PCB and better internal cooling.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!
Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

I tend to knock the power down when on FM but sometimes I have to knock it up in increments if struggling to get out.
It's not to bad if there's a few chatting but one to one I keep checking the heat sink

The screen faded on one of the radio's and the frequency would skip on the another radio..
