Mk2 360FM expansion

Post by cb4ever104 »

It's always nice to see proper professional mods done on radios. This one's so nice that I'm not even going to flip it over to see how it's made.

Yeah . It's just diodes I think to add 3 more HI bands . It's well made though .

Why did they not just add the diodes directly though. Much less bother

No idea . If I could find the guy I'd ask him :) I assume it was for cosmetic purposes. There might be a few other passives on it . I'm tempted to unsolder it and have a look . But I've finished with that one , and I'm on to the next one now. This is probably the same mod.

I'll maybe try and have another look at it when I can .

Could it on the neat separate board so that its easier to revert to standard should you wish? Would certainly make it a cleaner install. Thats me guessing, I haven't etched a PCB since the late 90s.

There was another method which was to do a diode matrix on the back of the band selector switch, very neat. The band selector itself could also be converted from its standard three positions to six positions.

Have not seen that PCB before. I like the homemade tinned PCB look and design using those rub off transfers. Much neater when looking at the component side. Was never happy doing those diode mods but they were cheap and that's what people wanted back in the day. Mod the 3 position switch to 6 and solder the diodes on the bottom.

I would if I was going to keep them , but I'll probably be selling them on , so I'll just leave them as they are .

Hi Claude. Yes. That looks very similar. A lot of the mods here were done by the same person. I've came across more than a dozen radios now with exactly the same modification . He always uses the same type of diodes, and resistors. I'm not sure if people sent their radios to him , or not. But Spain is a big country, so I don't know. Or maybe he was in Madrid and they all came from there. I'll probably never know

Perhaps it was that famous Spanish equivalent of Jentec, "Josetec" and it's worth a fortune?

Get some of his infamous glittery purple nail varnish out lol ;)

Couldn't resist it. Here's the component side. Well made board.
Just to add that this one is slightly different from the one I posted at the start of this thread. But it's similar. Has more bands though.
