The infamous MV1Y diode varistor: where to buy in the UK?

Post by PsiDOC »

Ay up all.
Been searching high and low for these in the UK and I cannot seem to get them anywhere. Does anyone know of a UK supplier?

Cheers.

Something to watch out for is that the ones for a Lincoln MRF477 have the pins swapped vs the ones for a Cobra 148 and most other radios.

Just use a 1N4001. There's been lots of discussion on here about them in the past. There's also a video on YouTube that discusses them. The result of that test was that the MV1Y was just a normal diode in a different packaging.

If a diode is to be of any use it will have to have good contact with the transistor. It needs to heat up with the transistor to protect it.

I had a Magnum S9 in for repair, replacing all bipolar finals (original 2SC1969). Magnum used 1N4001 diodes in the circuit too...
