It's good to know . And it makes sense , as they only had 1 digit to play with :) I was going to say that the 2000 GTL might have fallen into that category as well . But the more I think about it , I'm not sure when they started making those . 79 is too early I think . Any ideas . Early 80s ?

Any info on it ???
What is it worth as it is and repaired it is in fair condition i think ?????.
Same format as I stated above . If it's a Cobra 148 GTL-DX . Made in 1981 in Taiwan . Production #6928

Price will depend on condition etc.
Exactly as Sammy says above. Also, a few posts back in this thread, I posted the official serial number allocations for the MK1 (early) and MK2 (late) Cobra 148 GTL-DX.

It's a shame the document doesn't include the serial number of the very last 148 GTL-DX produced. Now that would be a radio to own!
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Are we including the Mk3's on here? If so, mine is 00033 and Otter's is 01966.

If not, you're radio-racist ;)

I remember when I first started doing small repairs in the mid 80s . I'd been given mostly Uniden stuff from local people who loved to wind up the AM power to max and blow the things . One day a guy gave me a Tristar , or something to look at . I took the covers off . Realised it was going to take me an hour just to find the main pcb . I put the cover back on , and gave it back to him with a made up apology . That was my one and only attempt at dealing with these things . Now I know they have their followers . And I know that they might even beat the Unidens on a few bench tests . But I just can't bear to look at them :) But , each to their own :)

The Mk1 service manual reads it's applicable for serial numbers in the range of 03000001-4498 and from 13000001 - 1504.

Yes, thank you for that. It's a strange number / board combination because that's in the PB010AB range. Paul?

That's the whole point of the exercise.

Sorry it was a general post - I spotted whilst reading the service manual for the mark one that it denoted that all mark 1's were from 03000001-030004498 (1980 production) and 130000001 to 13001504 (1981 build)

Just thought it was useful info if it hadn't been mentioned before!

So the earliest PB101AA must be 13001505
