Think the last batch with the MRF455 final were made in the PRC . Check the serial number .

"034....." would be PRC 2003

The early ones were made in Taiwan . I think they're all more or less the same , although others might be more knowledgeable on the matter .

It's the same, poor construction radio manufactured through the years.
Just buy less molested one.

Personally I would say the Philippines version is the best.

They are a good but not exceptional. FM modes suffers bleedover, only single conversion and low level AM modulation.

They are also overpriced these days.

I was never keen on the very late President's. I had a six band MRF455 Jackson side by side with an earlier five band Philippines version. The potentiometers were of a considerably lower quality in the six band. Components weren't seated as well on the PCB etc. I still have one of the Jackson's here. Can you guess which one it is.

It was the same with the Grant "classic". Looked nice but was a poor radio build wise. And, of course, a poorly built radio with low quality components will have poorer performance than that of a quality built radio.

I have two Lincoln's, a 2830 and a HR2600. All built in the Philippines and all good radio's. But if the last Lincoln's suffered in the same way as the last Jackson's and Grant Classic I wouldn't be happy owning one.

I'm not criticising the OP's radio. Of course if they're happy with it then there's no issues. But for me the build quality wouldn't be appealing.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

The FM is dual conversion, and after the earliest ones they changed FT401 to be a crystal filter.

I know FM was dual conversion, i worded my post badly :). Didn't they use a version of the MC3357 chip for FM also?

That chip was the source of many front end issues on Midlend and Maxcom radios due to it easily overloading.

It's a Sharp IR3N03 chip. I think it's pin compatible with the Motorola MC3357, but it won't have exactly the same internal circuit.
