Alinco DR-135 problem. :(

Post by Mudslinger »

I have been really happy with my Alinco DR-135 up until now, it is agreat radio.

Hopwever today it has developed a small but irritating fault.

The white letters on the front are supposed to illuminate when it is switched on, but today they just went off and haven't returned. :(

I know it isn't amajor issue, but I sometimes use the radio in dim light, and now I am worried something else could go wrong.

Shall I send it back for an exchange?

Do you mean the lights that illuminate the writing on the face?

Been using my DR135 since June this year. The back illumination is still ok. You must have a faulty one!

That is is.

I know it is trivial, but it is meant to work.

Have you tried a full reset?

I don't like hearing things like this especially as I only got one 8 days ago.

Did you try to wire a mike or use another mike when this happened.

Not tried a full reset.

I was using my desk mic on it, but it has been connected ever since I got the radio and I hadn't moved or disconnected anything.

The radio was on, then it just went out.

I will try it again later.

My old Superstar is playing up because it is old and bits are wearing out, my new radio is playing up because it is new.

It could be that a voltage has gone thru and blown something. I'm like you, if it has it, it has to work so the dash illumination not working would annoy me too. (it's also handy at night!) If I were you and depending on where I bought it, I would return it under warranty and don't mention you were using a different mic.

Keep us informed...

I am pretty sure it wasn't the mic. When wiring up the adaptor lead I made a point of insulating pin 6 inside the plug on the radio end of the lead with heatshrink as I know it carries voltage and can cause issues.

There are now only 3 wires connected between the microphone and the radio. TX, Common and audio.

I know some people have damaged Grant 2's by allowing the live pin to short against the others, that is why I was especially careful with it.

I wasn't saying it was or was not the mic. My point was that mentioning the mic would be an excuse to void the warranty.

About time these Anyclones were supplied with a decent mic as the biggest amount of user's change the stock mic.

Ahh I see.

In that case I was only using it with the standard mic. :) ;)

And yes the standard mic isn't very good.

Audio is pants, and it feels cheap.

your not indeed BUT every time your not having luck , base mikes are in the same posting , perhaps you should resolve your base mike issues first and stick with the fist mikes lol :D
im down to only 4 base mikes now but still to have a problem with radios , im sure it will pass over and its just a coincedence

the one good thing is if your audio is pants you cant hear it so your audio is top dollar ;) i had a time when my audio was bad apparently thing was it was intermitant {bnghd} so it did take a while to sort out
