I won't be bothering for a while.
I still have enough old radios to keep me on air for the time being.

I sent it back and got a refund. No explaination as to why it failed, but as i said on the oter thread I have had issues with other ones as well.
If I had to guess the cause it would probably be due to poor quality parts or soldering somewhere.

There seems to be an issue on most radios with the night illumination lasting as long as an X factor winners career

Just long enough to get it out from the shop.
Not a fan of these Chinese 10/11m sets personally, they work ok when they are working, but in my experience they don't stay working for long.
On these it seems that the first ones had issues and that they have done absolutely nothing to resolve them.

Don't get me wrong I have had my issues with the dx10 but now identified rf as cause I just need to try to get the illumination working so I have a decent working modern radio.
Audio is now clean and loud and once warmed up stable on band.
Just chasing this illumination that never was.

The terrible Cobra 200 are renowned for the nightwatch display failing. Just about all that appear on ebay say something like "nightwatch not working. Common issue on these. Doesn't effect the use of the radio". Same with the older Cobra 25's and 29's.Buick Mackane wrote: ↑11 Nov 2021, 21:27 There seems to be an issue on most radios with the night illumination lasting as long as an X factor winners career
Saying that, I do have a Superstar 3900EL which still has the working nightwatch feature. As standard it was hard wired to be on so I utilised the pull-out SWR control to make it switchable. Hopefully that'll give it a few years more life as the feature is pretty much pointless during the day or in a well lit room.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!
