Mystery repeater??

Post by FEZZYBOY »

Hi guys.
I was scanning around 2meters and picked up 2 American guys on 145.235Mhz...i guessed it was a far off repeater as the signal was S3.However,i missed the ident tones and callsign of said repeater and subsequent trawling through the internet and Google earth revealed that the only repeater was in Poole in Dorset.
I have a 4element yagi at around 14` pointing South and never heard anything on 235 before,so my question is...was this sporadic E or a repeater closer to me that is unlisted? I heard Winsystem and guessed it was echolink or something like IRLP,but for the life of me have been unable to trace it.
Obviously my QTH is Rotherham area,so im thinking Nottingham way might be in the right direction.
Any help please??

Hi,

I assume that's 145.2375MHz. Did you get the CTCSS tone at all? It was probably MB7IWW in Wales that's pretty strong and connected often. QRZ has details for it.

The RSGB has a gateway page but it is down at the moment. That lists them all.

Could be from a distance but have you ruled out MB7IWR - Dewsbury, West Yorkshire?

Thanks for your help. The freq was definately 145.23500 and although quiet, i did manage to catch the last 2 morse characters which i thought was ...WW.
I`ll have to monitor it frequently so i can get the ident,if I can receive it again.
Thanks for the reply lads.

I sometimes get foreign stations on 2m in and out but most of these are linked through internet linked repeaters

So it was 145.2375, and it was MB7IWW then.

Solved. Simple. Remember these IRLP links are on 12.5kHz spaced channels.
Will the next movie in the series be The Fast and The Funeral?

I appreciate that this is an old thread  MB7IWW was offline for a wile but it came back this year and is connected to HUBNet. It is soon to be replaced by a 2M Repeater, GB3CN, also connected to HUBNet.
