ye olde Realistic TRC-1007 question
HI Guys,
Been given one of these historic radios on a "you dabble with these sorts of things - have this ! no interest to me! " basis
For those not familiar, its a 30+ year old 4W 40 channel 27/81 spec handheld (tandy catalogue number 21-7009) .
(Image (C) Radiomuseum.org)
Cant find a Service manual online for it to date, so poked around with appropriate test gear and got it working , but I wondered if anyone with the circuit diagram could confirm whether its possible to both use the radio on its 12V socket and plug in a charger simultaneously such that the radio can be used whilst the batteries charge.
Also anyone know the availability of the service manual please ?
Before I get a million posts on the subject :
Yes I AM fully aware of T21 (and others) YouTube videos regarding this set.
yes I know the best way to pop the PA is to run it directly off 13.8 which is why its running off a 12V 6A rated buck boost right now !
many thanks in advance
regards
BB

Not sure about charging and powering at the same time but I have a feeling you can't do that.
Also, the charging circuit was designed for NiCad batteries not modern NiMH so be wary of which batteries you have if charging "on board"

Even if you are able to (with the charging voltage possibly causing harm to components whilst TX'ing), from memory, you will probably have a loudish hum or buzzing along with your outgoing audio.

Yes Since I posted Ive read dire warnings that the charge socket is strapped straight across the batteries with no current limiting, fortunately Im charging it with a bench PSU which has current limiting :-)

Re: ye olde Realistic TRC-1007 question
Now in possession of the service manual - many thanks to my mate RPC Comms for sorting it !
Transmitter amazingly barely needed touching - bang on 4w at 12,5V , VCO good on the analyser
Don't think the rx is too far off as signals I can hear on my FT847 down to S2 it seems to be picking up ok
Amazing for a set of its age!
Fire up the sig genny tomorrow and see how the rx is doing (once the SO239 to Phono adapter arrives in the post)
regards

Would there be any chance of sharing that? It could be useful for other people.

Re: ye olde Realistic TRC-1007 question
Its too big to upload here (around 70 mb)
For some reason I can post but not send PMs presently (I get something about an invalid form back from the site
but I use the same cached credentials for posting and that works fine )
Once I can solve that I will try and sort something out re the manual
Regards
