Disrespect? Sir, I was paying them the highest possible compliment. It's not often you see the words Fidelity 1000 and legendary together in the same decade!
The most lengendary radio in h World!

I bought a Commtel at Dorset radio rally [Same as Fidelity 1000 but with 4 knobs and one switch] I gave £2 for it because it had the original mic and got to be worth £2 for the mic, And to be honest i am finding it a joy to use, My intention was to put the mic in my spare mic box, Pull the signal meter as it is same size as the Uniden style, And speaker and bin the rest, But i cant do it, Ive had a few contacts on it and for once i didnt get blanked out by Joe Bloggs 2 miles away 20 channels up.
My first CB Radio in 1981 was a Sapphire X2000 (same radio) and it has had 1000s of hours use and never had the casing removed. It's still boxed and works as good as anything else I own IMO.I alsp own two Magpie Autoscan 5000 that get very little use these days

I do remember reading the excellent review on the radio in 83 . Can't remember the price of it , but it was expensive . Too expensive for me at the time , and much more than my £40 Audiolone 341 :)

With inflation that's just shy of £400 in today's money. That would by you a couple of Anytone's or a decent second hand HF set with change on both.
Never, ever, ever....bloody anything ever!

Far too many radio's to list here. But I do own a legal one...

Back in the day there was nothing UK CB radio specific to touch it. Looks, performance, the Rolls Royce of CB/27/81. Any avid collector must have one in their collection. They were too far out of my reach price wise when they came out and by the time I could have got one I'd progressed to sidebanders. I did acquire one though about 10 years back, if it had the box I could have passed it off as brand new it was in such perfect condition. Needless to say I did very very well in the price I got for it when I sold it on eventually. There's always somebody who's more than willing to shell out a small fortune for something they're more or less desperate to have, silly really.

For the price you paid new, all you got with it was a plain brown box with a bit of dimply foam stuck to the inside, instead of the usual polystryrene inserts. I must glue the foam back inside mine one of the days as it peeled off with age.
The original manuals for these are rare too, so my box has got a pack of Silica beads inside so nothing gets damp. I dry it out well every year and reuse it over the winter months.

That £30 ebay job perhaps? I saw that. The front panel looked quite tidy if it was.

Made an offer he took it. I’ve got spare knobs and bits and bobs.
Might get it going.

I had a CB that used to come down off its shelf when I wasn't looking and steal shiny knobs and switches. I think it was my Magpie ;)

On a much more serious note, fingers crossed you get it working mate.

These always seem to suffer with the text rubbing too easily.

Certain cleaners can do that. Imagine my horror when I cleaned our crappy Indesit gas hob and cooker with some new, stainless steel cleaner, only to see most of the lettering shrivel up and literally float away!

It's my excuse not to have to cook anything and I'm sticking to it ;)
