Hi

Am I right in thinking you have no serial port on the back of your PC? Again I am assuming it is a PC and not a laptop? If it is a laptop the usb/serial adpator may not be wired correctly

If you have no serial (RS-232) connection on the back of your PC the easiest solution is to buy an RS-232 PCI card and slap it in an empty PCI slot inside the PC. There are a LOT of compatibility problems with USB to serial (RS-232) adaptors.

If you have an RS-232 connection on your PC but having no joy, check all available Comm ports in the radio's software settings (Comm 1,2,3 etc). Plugging in the adaptor may have re-shuffled your comm ports. Its worth checking your BIOS and Windows device manager settings. If that fails your problem could be either hardware (motherboard) or a borked system driver.

USB to Serial converters are a bit hit 'n' miss - some do not operate the correct hardware flow and as such, they are un-suitable for data-modes/EchoLink/AGW etc. In short, they don't output the +v that you use to drive the PTT with. This sometimes leads to them not working on a number of programs :(

Alpha.yes i have a serial port at the rear, the usb adaptor i have is for the pc1000, which worked1st time everytime on mi old lappy...but since having the tower, i tried the pcr 1000 all i got wa the green light flashing in the virtual screen, which indicates not connected, so i didnt bother as had other scanners to use.

But having just got the xlt , fancied using it on the virtual and data transfer . all i get up is ,no scanner detected at comport, check baud rate/comport, scanner is in remote mode
