Just out of interest - I've been trying to pick up private business radio in my locality - have uyou just entered the TX and RF freqencies that you found on the ofcom site and had success?
Some I've found I'm not receiving anything at all......

I've got a double discone, and a Uniden UBC800XLT.....iansradios wrote:u will need rx only mate, and an indoor aerial will be usless.what radio are you using.
So I don't have to put the TX frequencies in at all?
I have some gas terminals around me, who I'm sure are using some form of encryption....

Re: HOLYHEAD PORT AREA
Only rx, unless the user is using duplex (base on one frequency, mobile on another) like taxi's, whats left of ambulances, sometimes prisons etc. There is no guarantee that those that you do have to put in both rx and tx, that you will always hear both sides.

Re: HOLYHEAD PORT AREA
Ian,
Do you ever hear any communication onboard the ferry?
I'm near the port of Milford Haven, and ferries to Pembroke and Fishguard are nearby.
I hear port control - but I never hear any communication between say tankers ant tugs when berthing, or any communication on board vessels for that matter.

Re: HOLYHEAD PORT AREA
You pretty much need to be very close to catch the handhelds that ships use,and a lot of shipping companies use different hand held radio, one each ship.harbour control will tell them to park up but the guys on the ropes have there won radios as well as the ship.
