Re: CB Shops from back in the day
It used to be CB services and that's when Eddie worked there but bev was doing repairs on rigs and got the shop after the owner of CBS as the floor space was a lot bigger then..MrWeetabix wrote: ↑15 Sep 2022, 22:29I don;t remember an Eddie, just Bev. I think I was there around the time he went Biking across America, he loved his big motorcycles. Not sure what ever happened to him or the shop. I thought he had left it to other members of the club to run, so unsure why it closed in the end.lambrettadave wrote: ↑15 Sep 2022, 18:19 Aye, I might pay them a visit.
Did you meet Eddie who used to work in the shop before bev
Around 10 years ago I went in and it was dead nee one in except bev .
When Eddie was in I bought a silver eagle of them

Bloody hell yeah, Lee Dixons in Bensham! He was the far end of Gateshead from me so I dont think I ever got down there more than once. I believe that shop was still a going concern with radios for sale etc some years ago, not sure on its current state mind and it deffo wasnt Lee Dixons last I seen.
I now use Canny Components up in Sunniside. Always have a good choice to rummage through and anything you need/want they order in :-)

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
Shops aside, for many years us here on Tyneside would happily be able to pick up a rig from 'Tommy Turbo' who used to buy and sell anything CB. Straight 40s, mids/muppets, sidebanders, burners, twigs....anything.
"19 anyone want to buy and rigs, sell any rigs, and twigs power packs, burners go to channel 16 16 16"
I was told he did this whilst he was on a driving ban, but unsure on the truths on this as I half-remember him delivering a radio for me once.
If you ever went to his house, it was interesting to say the least.

Were you unable to separate the pages of the CB Radio section, just like your mates couldn't open the lingerie ones shortly after?Buick Mackane wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 11:13 Aside from CB Shops catalogues also sold CB gear back in the day, I remember lusting over a spinneytronic amstrad clone When all my pals were lusting over the lingerie pages

I think I heard of Tommy turbo but had no connection with him.MrWeetabix wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 12:48 Shops aside, for many years us here on Tyneside would happily be able to pick up a rig from 'Tommy Turbo' who used to buy and sell anything CB. Len Dixon's, I used to walk from Gateshead metro station to his shop and then walk over to the scooter shop at byker afterwards and then mooch around the toon for a bit before going home
.
I loved and still love my Euro CB catalogue and the midland, jesan and skiptech catalogue and the CRT catalogue too otherwise I used to look forward to seeing what was in Tandy's or the CB radio magazine.Buick Mackane wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 11:13 Aside from CB Shops catalogues also sold CB gear back in the day, I remember lusting over a spinneytronic amstrad clone When all my pals were lusting over the lingerie pages
In the early days of the internet I never thought the shops captured the sparkle of catalogue's

CB Universal on Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Known as 'Charlies' after the owner.
People used to speak of another local shop Roger D's but I never went.
There were other outlets.
We had a radio club pub meet at the March Hair on Carlton Rd regularly. I think I was member/call RC113 so a few had joined

Re: CB Shops from back in the day
Been so long back but we had the c.b cabin in brierley hill. The truck stop c.b shop off j1 m5 where was a truckers service station type park up place.
Stan willets a electrical hardwares store West Bromwich I think high street towards birmingham.
Raycom where a friend worked Birmingham New road oldbury.
Then their was a couple in Walsall tonks,s but can't remember other or exact road.
I'm sure their were more just can't remember now.
Big c.bAnd radio store in low town bridgenorth not far from the bridge over R7.
We had dixons in West Brom too and do remember a repair guy and shop in bilston but no name.
Was and still is a c.b gun shop in Kidderminster that moved stores from back streets to oposit train station and went on to sell air guns too few years ago.
Interestingly my neighbour bought me a few c.b radio antennas meters from makro halesowen and a warehouse called castle in Birmingham.
Latter was tools store I believe.
Seems cb gear was sold everywhere.
