CRT 7900V software? S meter setting.

Hi to all

I have just purchased the CRT 7900V out of interest i wanted to see if the service menu was still the same as the old SS-7900 and its not, no service menu shows up holding menu and mode while turning on power. not that i am that worried about that but frequency adjustment could be usefull if your not close enough, luckily mine is very close.

But my real gripe is the new 7900V software does not contain the S meter RSI adjustments any more. i have a signal gen by marconi and like to set the S meter as per sig gen. but now i cant as no longer in the software.

the S meter readings are quite a bit off and annoying.

So if anyone has any idea why its no longer available i would be interested, or if they have a way to get into service menu?

Yeah, annoys me too. I setup my 7900 using the RSI adjustments and expected same with the 7900V.
There will be s meter calibration adjustments, but until we see the full engineering menu and what each menu item does, we're a bit screwed.

As it is, the s meter is way too high.

Was such a nice feature the RSI adjustments, Think i will wait a few months and if nothing comes out about how to adjust i will get rid of it. I have also sent an email to CRT asking why its not in the new 7900V software. So if any one reads this they might also ask them the same question as i would think features added not taken away with new version's.

A shame really as it seems quite good apart from the silly S readings.

This is how you enter service mode

CRT SS 7900V TURBO - SERVICE MODE:

Step 1: Press and hold MENU and MODE while you turn the radio ON. All LCD segments will show for around 2 seconds.

Step 2: Within this 2 second window, release the MENU and MODE buttons, and quickly press these keys, one after another (within the 2 second window): RB, NB, SCAN, MEM, EMG.

The radio will enter Service Mode.

Everything that is adjustable in the radio is done in this menu... The options in the Service Mode menu are:

Ok so i went into the service menu to adjust menu 37 AF-SQL also menu 36 AF-SQH i now have a sensitive SQ that lets weak signals through. I found factory settings on weak signals kept the SQ cutting in and out. now its sweet.

I then proceeded to the S meter settings. Menu 40 to 45 the FM signal settings.

All the above settings were changed using my Marconi signal generator ( YOU CAN NOT DO THIS WITH OUT ONE SO DON'T TRY)

First of all you need to find the setup Frequency which is 27.420 fm you can not set up on any other frequency.

If you key the Mic it shows you the current settings. if you push the VFO knob it will change the settings to what it hears now so don't do it with out a signal generator.

I now have a much better radio, the SQ opens nicely for weak signals and the S meter confirms what i have on other radio's nicely.
