Hi everyone. Scanner query

Post by AirDan » 10 Apr 2017, 19:47

Hi all, my first post here. I haven't touched a scanner in about 15 years and recently a disabled chap that I support has shown a interest in getting into it. He has what I believe to be Uniden Bearcat UBC 68XLT 80 channel 8 band radio. Serial number if it helps is 44016238. Could anyone advise on how to use it? We are in the Nottingham area. What is he likely to be able to pick up using this? Thanks in advance for replies. Looking forward to becoming a more active member. Might even buy myself a scanner now.

Hi, welcome to the forum. To be brutally honest you won't pick up a great deal with that radio, it covers 4m, 2m and 70cm FM ham bands, FM marine band, maybe some local analogue PMR community repeaters and taxis around 163-170 Mhz, plenty of Mosques on about 454mhz, then it's anything else you come across while using the 'search' facility, you will get more signals if you use an outdoor antenna, good luck.

Thank you for the replies. I've tried those frequencies a few times each when I've been at work and we haven't been able to hear anything at all. Have we just got bad timing, am I do something wrong in operating the scanner or do we need a better scanner?
