noticed there is a few people reading this small thread i guess there is some intrest in russian navy signals, here is how to keep tabs on the russian navy fleet in case anyone wants to copy these messages. Here is a report from a couple of days ago the message is from RHO62 Admiral Vladimirskiy a Expeditionary oceanographic vessel to RIT Northern Fleet Headquarters at Severomorsk.

RIT de RHO62 164 19 9 1503 164 = sml RJD38 RJH74 = 09121 99499 70009 42598 82417 10120 40242 57018 87531 22243 00116 20506 319// 40808 88000 09015 = + rho62 k

TRANSLATION

RIT de RHO62 164 19 9 1503 164
procedural signals: 164 = addresse person/dept/desk, 19 = group count
9 = day of month, 1503 = local time of message preparation, 164 = addresse.

sml for RJD38 RJH74
sml = priority code here it is samoljot (aircraft)which is normal
RJD38 RJH74 = message is of intrest to these callsigns in this case both calls are Russian Hydrographic land based stations.

09121= day (9 jan) at 12 hours UTC

99499 70009 42598 82417 10120 40242 57018 87531 22243 00116 20506 319// 40808 88000 09015 = + rho62 k

here is the good bit lol the above message is formatted in the WMO Buoy Meteorogical data or FM-13 code, these messages do contain position reports has well has sea state and weather conditions. FM-13 messages are sent by ships of the hydrographic service of the Russian Federation Navy has well as by auxillary ships escorting a task force and all messages are directed to certain callsigns has above
(RJD38 RJH74).Im only concerned with the position report of the boat so lets strip all other info out of the message.

99499 70009 and heading and speed 22243.
the boats position in lat/lon is 49.9N Lattitude 0.09W Lattitude (English Channel)
heading south at 11 to 15 knots

NOTES: IN THE LAT/LON SECTION YOU ALWAYS HAVE TWO NINES
IN THE HEADING AND SPEED SECTION YOU ALWAYS HAVE THREE TWOS
12464KHZ DAYTIME PRIMARY
8345KHZ NIGHT TIME PRIMARY
MANY MANY FREQS USED BUT THESE ARE A GOOD STARTING POINT.
THESE REPORTS SENT EVERY 6 HOURS STARTING AT MIDNIGHT BUT BEAR IN MIND THEY MAY BE OPERATING MOSCOW TIME OR UKRAINE TIME OR EVEN FAR EAST .

Glad to see my callsign list was useful

I've actually just written an article for The Spectrum Monitor on how to listen to the Russian Navy, the first of what will probably be a three parter. It covers what has been said previously here with a little bit more too

Thanks for posting Tony, a wealth of information on your site https://planesandstuff.wordpress.com/ info like this can take months to put together so it's nice for a newcomer to be able to jump in and get results from the start due to people sharing info like this. I find this sort of thing really intresting, plenty of signals to play with at the moment a few unlisted one's cropping up. I will keep a eye out for the mag im sure it will be very intresting reading may be you could consider doing one for the so called Bear nets if there is enough info out there to warrant a article.

73's John

EDIT just checked your blog the Bear net article has been done :D :D
