I'm about 15 miles away from Bradford. I'm using a Kenwood TM-V71 radio with a D-Original X200 dual band home base antenna.

It's an amateur radio transceiver and antenna. I bought it from http://www.lamcommunications.net/index.php?cPath=78_82

Yes it would work, but the unit is meant to be connected to the internet to download frequencies. 90% of it's features would be useless here.

An imported BCT15 would be a better buy.

In radio terminology, a transceiver means a unit which contains both a receiver and a transmitter.
