Re: new radio
The Sony ICF 7600GR is a good portable radio for MW and SW. It will be £100ish though. Have a look on eBay. These radios have actually gone up in price by about £40 since last year.

Re: new radio
Some of the Tecsun models are cheaper, but lack SSB. I would go with the Sony mentioned, I have one myself.

I have a Tecsun Pl 600, it cost 60 quid on eBay. it has a basic ssb for hams and aircraft. Good value for the price.

Re: new radio
do you want to listen to radio stations, shipping or radio amateurs ??
£70 could get you a decent 0 to 30mhz receiver with Am and SSB on it.

I have a Kaito KA1102 seems to be fine with good shortwave coverage, and SSB, also has FM for BBC/Commercial radio. £41 on E-bay! Also have a Sony ICF 2001D,a cracking SW receiver which has USB/LSB too as well as airband and FM.
You can never have enough radios!
