Olymic Torch Caerphilly

Post by alannah »

The Olympic torch is due in Caerphilly tomorrow and even though the torch convoy comms are digital there are frequencies that Caerphilly council use for events in the town so some related traffic is likely to be heard.

Below is a list of frequencies used for events in recent years so some activity is likely to be heard on them:

158.4875
158.7875
159.5875
159.6250
164.0000
164.0625
164.1250
173.0500
454.4200
456.3875
456.8625
456.9875
And
453.1000 (Town centre Shop and Pubwatch)
461.8875 (Castle Court Security)

I have not yet recovered from yesterdays sun and crowds! A remarkable turn out of people I must say.

I took 3 radios with me - A Uniden 3500 and a 72XLT and a Yaesu VX6, but did I pick anything up?

Well nothing out of the ordinary, as was initially suspected I think, but many of the local 'event' frequencies I quoted above were active with St Johns additionally using:

153.7125 Mhz

JFMG frequencies that close call found were
457.240
457.260
457.280
457.310

The above frequencies will be approximate due to the channel spacing on closecall.

I was stood next to the bus whilst they lit the torch and heard nothing but then when the convoy travelled back around Caerphilly a data transmission was heard by closecall as the convoy coach went past - this was on:

152.170 Mhz

So nothing to get too exited about but the event frequencies traffic was very entertaining at times!

Most of the same freqs were in use today, were one or two different JFMG freqs being used for BBC Radio & BBC Midlands today. ST John was also active on the same channel you had noted, plus some others. I didnt hear anything from the official team, just outside broadcasts from BBC Midlands today (One from Much Wenlock & my location Stoke) There was also an event channel for the celebration in the park, and outside broadcasts of BBC radio
