Guys, forget the software from Uniden - check out bcTool written by Rob Parker

http://www.bctool.org/

It's freeware, so there's no charge, but I'm sure Rob would appreciate a donation.

It supports the following scanners:

UBC800XLT
UBC3500XLT
BR330T
BCD396T
BCT15
BCD996T
SC230
BC246T

Can you expand on that Ian? - I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated shack-space with antenna, BCT-15, laptop and BCTool. You might save me a lot of time & trouble.

Well I have got a Uniden UBC3500XLT and I don't understand what you mean when you say software. I have not got any and I don't think I need it. I going to be using it for aircraft and ships as there is not a lot out there anyway.

I'll try not to confuse you but I have trouble putting my thoughts into text.

Software + a programming cable are for programming your 3500xlt via your PC, like adding memories/alpha tags and all around programming is alot easier/faster than doing it by the keypad on the scanner.

Bctool is a free piece of software that will work with your 3500xlt.

As an owner of this scanner, UBC800XLT I can state that the BCTools [that I tried in the last month] does not fully support this scanner.

As for the UBC3500XLT, I was not comfortable with it.

As for the AR8200, this is complicated enough and was, for me at least, impossible without the professional software.

I know what you mean, I've bought three copies of the professional software for three scanners, after trying the free version. Whilst expensive, all I can say is it was worth it.

do you work for butel? lol

Anyway i've never had any problems with my bct15 (pretty much the same as the 800xlt) and my 3500xlt on bctool.

I think you'll find they are not the same, maybe that's the actual problem.

I thought the UBC3500XLT software worked ~ but I'd have to reload it, to see what I thought and why I bought the pro software ~ but I did and I'm not affiliated to the pro company.

I will add that the pro software is inherently TOO expensive with no loyalty incentives or incentive for multiple software, that's another area where the free stuff fell down, it was expected to run several scanners, it does not, sadly mimicking the pro version in that regard, also there was access problems with other application using the ports.

I'm running an AIS scanner and the UBC800XLT simultaneously, if I remember correctly it was one or the other with the free software.
