Why here?

Post by crusty »

Why is this homebrew sub-forum in the Amateur section when members are homebrewing equipment for scanner/CB/SWL/PMR and amatuer radio??

Having it here sends a clear message of exclusion. If the much used phrase 'Its all radio' has any value on this forum this section should be a separate forum and not tied to one aspect of the hobby.

it's where simon put it as there was a hidden forum so he just needed to change the name and make it public.

I'll request it to be put in general.

Jesus, who gives a crap....

If you home-brew, post here, if you don't....then don't

Hardly a "clear message of exclusion", give Simon a break, he doesn't charge for the site and does it in his own free time.

And YES....it IS all radio.

It was just a starting point, no need to be a big issue.
The point of putting it here is to see what kind of use the section would get as it was experimental having being suggested by some forum members and the moderators.

I'll move into the general area shortly ;)

Damn, Simon's attempt at "sending a clear message of exclusion" has been thwarted once again!

He would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn;t for you pesky kids!

Thank you Simon.

I give a crap and you should too. I didn't post to gave anyone a hard time, this is an opportunity to have members from all sections contribute to each others projects and feel welcome to do so. Having it in the Amatuer section will not encourage everyone to take part.

Take a chill pill weety, Fez already explained why Simon had placed it here.

As for the 'It's all radio' crap, I've only ever heard that spouted by lazy-arses who've
been pulled for bad operating or just generally being divvies.

At the end of the day, you could still be a legitimate radio amateur without ever owning a radio.
If you just experiment with antenna design or propagation you have fulfilled the terms of the licence.

I just didnt see the need for the "message of exclusion" comment, thats all.

If you know this site, then you'll know thats NOT what we're all about.

I have frequently said "Its all radio", so by your estimation I am a "lazy-arse, who's been pulled for bad operating and generally a divvie"

Thanks for that, but I am neither a lazy-arse, nor have I ever been "pulled" for bad operating practice

Jack makes a an antenna for 11m, Jill makes an antenna for 10m, whats the difference other than a few CMs in length? legality aside, its the same basic principles involved.

Ham, CB, SWL, no matter what your level of interest, its all radio. It becomes "them and us" when people start making it that way. This is a forum where the aformentioned Jack & Jill can come together and discuss their two projects and share ideas in order to help one another.

Radio, and aspects of radio technology are all governed by physics, and as such, the fundamental rules/laws apply, such as antenna length, as an example.

So yes, it IS all radio and I don't see why people get their knickers in a twist about it....

Apparently I'm too lazy to get my knickers in a twist

Anyway, many thanks for the new forum Simon. Shall we get back to burning our fingers and making capacitors explode?

Totally agree and having said that I would add that traditionally Amateur radio operators have always been more likely to homebrew especially in the early years when commercial equipment was not around. Most radio equipment available then was ex military and Amateurs adapted the radios for ham use plus built power supplies ect ect.
I have not seen a home built cb radio yet!
For those who are really into radio there is no distinction between the various groups of people it is "all radio"
To my mind being a divvy, it makes no difference under what section the thread is, this forum is about radio what ever your capabilities and status, to exchange information and help each other out wherever possible.
To post such comments betrays a resentment towards other members and it is a pity that some people have nothing better to do than when unable to find a topic for a thread nit pick at what is an excellent forum
I am a cb user, a licenced ham,a swl,a scanner user and a bit of a homebrewer so if i want info on any of those topics i go to the appropiate section.

HA HA HA I say "Its all radio" to my miss everyday. She dont get the hole radio hobby so I say to her if it was not for radio then nothing would exist, almost everything in our lives has radio in it "Its all radio" the TV (radio), Mobile Phones (Radio), electricity (Radio, Works On HTz), the Radio (Radio), Satelite tv And radio (Radio), Microwave Ovens (Radio), Speakers on a sound system (Radio), Computers (Radio), and loads of others that all contain Hz, MHz, KHz, GHz, to me anything with any of those is radio.
