KL400

Post by NightProwler »

I know this amp has been discussed before but I thought I mention what mine is doing. 10 watts in on FM with the amp on stage 6 gives me 160 watts, 20 watts in on SSB gives me 160 watts too. This was tested using an AV600 meter with a 250 watt dummy load. Now I know power is always exaggerated but I did expect a bit more on SSB. Oh well.

Measure voltage on amp board after the fuses and on power supply terminals under FM 160W load.
What is the result?
Chris

p.s. on the other hand 400W from 2 pills is not possible :)

To be honest Chris I can't really be arsed to open it. I know I would never see 400W from it but I thought it might do a little more than it is. Damn cheap amplifiers.

I'll tell you a secret. 400W it takes from wall wart :)

Anyway voltage drop is worth checking. You could squeeze a little more watts out of it.
