80s Ham Radio shop in Partick , Glasgow

Post by cb4ever104 »

Hi .

Could some kind person please tell me the name of that Ham Radio shop that used to be in Partick in the 80s ? One of those streets on the left off Dumbarton Road if you're coming from the tunnel . I thought it was "Lowes" , but looking on Google they may have been up near the Botanic Gardens .

Thx !

Sorry Paul I can't think where that was!

Remember getting the bus up to Dumbarton Rd with a pal to pick up a £25 Amstrad 901 from Clydesdale Electrical SALE (i think) around 82.

Closest I got to a ham radio shop then was Pearson's in the Barras :D :D :D

I would bet Jazzsinger would have remembered but not seen him on here for yrs, He was just across the water from you in those days I think.

I know, I was there then. It was a damn shame it ended that way, especially since the perpetrator of the constant goading got away with it at the time. Though by then I think Jazz went further than was easily returnable from. It was what it was.

Met Jazz a couple of times, got some rigs from him, still have them. Think I can safely say this now (looks over shoulder) :? :? he hated with vengeance cybernets :D :D so much so he stuck a MMII in my hands on the way out the door one day and said tell no one I gave you that :D :D :D

It's really bugging me now . I thought it was Lowes , but I think I'm wrong . They repaired my TS-520 that I had at the time , and I bought a Sommerkamp 788 from them as well .

It was up on the left hand side of the street up a hill .

Slightly OT, but I occasionally helped out at Lowe's during rally time. Worked on their stand. Great fun had. I'm SIM GM3SAN nephew. (Small world) If anyone remembers a lanky dark haired teenager on the Lowe stands in Scotland, that was me. They eventually moved to Cumbernauld Airport, but that was the beginning of their decline.

PS I'm now overweight and bald

From what I've heard he's very unwell, spent 6 months in hospital, got discharged but hasn't been doing well lately.
