Re: What CB/11m Radio Stuff did you buy today? (2017)
Finally got a silver-fronted EMS Mercury 1040 radio off ebay. Been after one for a few years but they always fetched a fortune (last really nice one went for £102 with postage!) Paid £16 more than my normal £25 radio limit for it, but I used my recent £20 refund to aid bidding. It'll go nicely with my mirrored-gold and brushed-gold fronted ones as well as my 2 black-fronted portable ones.

Last month 2x cobra 148gtl dx .. was only looking for one but the second came along a few days later at a very decent price and turned out to be totally original : H/M/L bands, non switched beep, original ch9 switch etc and in particularly nice condition and still had the plastic over the serial plate !
Today received a lovely old school Sommerkamp ts788dx .. been after one for over 30 years !!

Re: What CB/11m Radio Stuff did you buy today? (2017)
Bought one of these early 90s , Taiwan made Grant looking SUPERSTAR SS-36 thingies .
I don't see them come up very often . Front doesn't look in great condition . From a Google search it seems to have an EPT360014 in it , although being 93 I thought that it would have had an earlier board in it . Interesting to see that it doesn't have a COURSE control on the front . From the sticker on the top it looks as if the DIM and BRITE control the HI and LO band selection . Also has a PA jack on the back , but no control on the front . Bit of a rarity . No ? Anyway . Something else to take to strip down and play with

Hi Claude.
It looks the same , but the lettering on my facia looks a bit different. I'll try and take some photos and send you them once I receive the radio.
Salut
Paul

I'm just looking at your photos Claude . Mine has the "AM/FM/SSB" writing at the bottom ,whereas yours is at the top . Also my band lettering is different . So there's a few differences .

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Is the SS the same as the Cobra 2000? Mate of mine had the Cobra using it mobile, well I say mobile, every time he went round a corner the radio drifted off frequency!

Re: What CB/11m Radio Stuff did you buy today? (2017)
I don't think it is the same as the Cobra 200 or 2000, I know it is the same as the Dirland DSS9000F though.
Doesn't seem to drift that much. Certainly no worse than a decent 3900
The build on it doesn't feel all that robust though, the switches don't have that positive click which you get on a Uniden or older 3900
The George is off frequency, so will need a service, but otherwise seems to work ok. Apart from the usual strong signal overload on SSB RX. The clarifier also operates the transmit frequency on this one. I think it was Astradyne who said his did that as well.
