Re: 9 year old passes Advanced
some will pass it easy ...some will struggle and never pass
my father was one of the first m3 in the uk and he is not techie minded at all
if his life depended on it he cant wire a plug or make a dipole he will never progress further
but as an operator he is fine and better than me
i passed it no probs
no one the same and i dont think i am better than any one else nor is any one better than me
congrats to the kid for passing

I'll tell ya this me auld muckers, If the time ever comes where the amateur bands are littered with children i'll be packing it in I'll be finding me a new hobby, Hungarian formation dancing is becoming more appealing each passing day.
And another thing, How in the name of fook can these kids afford the equipment? At that age i couldn't afford a pair of socks.

Parents are already licenced in most cases, others come in via organisations like the Air CadetsBuick Mackane wrote:I'll tell ya this me auld muckers, If the time ever comes where the amateur bands are littered with children i'll be packing it in I'll be finding me a new hobby, Hungarian formation dancing is becoming more appealing each passing day.

Because Mater et Pater give them a gold credit card to make up for sending them to boarding school.Buick Mackane wrote:

That's why the ISS skeds were with posho schools last year and not inner-City ghetto Comprehensives.
And it's great when it's cold and wet outside and you can send your butler out on the roof to tweak the SWR.

Cost is tiny! Most kids have a phone that costs more than a really good radio, and have laptops and other stuff. Ever noticed that a model railway hobbiest happily pays over a hundred quid for an engine now? Leisure costs. If it's worth doing, it's worth paying for.

It`s all down to personal choice at the end of the day...Just because many don`t go on and do there advanced ticket doesn`t mean to say they can`t.. Maybe they just don`t want too!

No not necessarily, HAM gear can cost a small fortune, or pennies, depends what you want, or are happy to make the most of!Admiral wrote: ↑21 Oct 2017, 12:52Because Mater et Pater give them a gold credit card to make up for sending them to boarding school.Buick Mackane wrote:

ISS skeds were with schools that could be arsed to apply to participate, if that happens to be plumb in mouth silver spoon ones, maybe the ghetto schools should pull their socks up, get an interest in amateur radio going, and apply next time?
Butler tweaking the SWR?.....what alternative reality do you live in?
Can't even get the missus to go up and tweak mine!

Well I ain't cringing so don't know what point is of your comment, unless it's your attempt to put down long term FL holders?Checkpointcharlie wrote: ↑06 Jan 2018, 23:19Work it outTranswarp wrote: ↑05 Jan 2018, 15:03Why?Checkpointcharlie wrote: ↑14 Oct 2017, 21:26 I would think most longterm FL would be cringing at that fact LOL
