Post by delboyonline »

The price of the long awaited upgrade kit for the Yaesu FT-991 has been announced on the ML&S website......

And the price is..... £480 + POSTAGE!!!!

That is a lot of money so you can have a real time spectrum scope/waterfall.....

if it was any cheaper then a 991 and upgrade kit would be cheaper than a 991A.
ML put the price of the 991 up £70 overnight as well to plug that gap even further

Made me chuckle when I saw the price , what planet are they on .I had thought of picking up a 991 but the PA issue has put me of and could I live without the upgrade , of course I could .I think Icom nailed it with the 7300 , had one and liked it a lot , only sold it as I've too many radios here and a local offered more than I paid for it lol , beer stocked up :) .

Cheers

Agreed - I briefly had the offer of a 991 at £650 new, but chose a 7300. Excellent radio, but I still use the 857 far more often, so I guess it will be beer money for me too!

I'll hold of and see what comes along , 991 with the PA fixed .I know a lot of people like the 857 but it's a radio that I've never liked .I preferred the 706 G but of course if we all liked the same things life would be boring . I ran the 7300 beside the TS-590SG and both in my view were evenly matched ( only compared on SSB ) , but I did like the ease of operating the 7300 , hmmm might need to get another lol .

I do like to listen to SW and MW broadcast band DX, and find the 590SG and 7300 both pretty poor (in fact useless below 1500khz, even after the link move before someone tells me about it) whereas the 857 is very good, as was my 757GX2 which I regret letting go.

Hi Dave

I had like yourself a FT 757GX2 and sold it must be 18 years ago at least , good old girl in her day .For the little time I have on the radio due to high noise levels whatever I use serves the purpose . I have looked at the FT891 for mobile but am undecided at the moment .

word on the street is that the 7100 is a great mobile set - I have one here on loan for a few weeks, I have only explored the dark world of DV / DSTAR so far with it.

Hi Dave

I have a 7100 here , only used in the shack since new .For what it covers it's a good radio in my opinion .I have a DV4 mini dongle and to be honest I'm not impressed with it .As others have said on other forums the audio is not great through it .I got on fine when echolink was introduced , now we have dstar , DMR , FUSION .Why could they just not settle on one type , money I suppose .People slate the 7100 for the head unit design but in practice I find it far better than the 706 / 857 ect and a bonus you don't have to buy a long lead as it's already included .It would have been nice had Icom put the 4 Mtr band on the screen rather than entering it manually each time .I'm sure you'll have fun with it whilst it there with you .
