Post by radio_ryan »

New Year New Project.

I have just gotten my first 10/11/12 meter radio,

So I can work UK CB and 10 Meter ham radio but I am lots to know which is the best antenna, for a small garden come back yard.

the antenna I am looking at are listed below. and I an open to other that are about that same. due to space being about 1 x1 Meters

NEW Sirio Vector 4000 @ £104 Frequency 26-29MHz

Sirio 827 @ £109 Frequency 26-29MHz

Sirio New Tornado 27 @ £70 Frequency 27-30MHz

I would like it to cover UK CB and 10 Meters. due to some friends being on CB,

I would be grateful for any help advice and tips when it comes to CB

Thank You
Radio Ryan

Do you mean literally you only have a square of 1Mtr x 1Mtr to site this aerial? :o

If so, what is surrounding this space, and how high are these surrounding objects?

As I'm sure you know, any aerial won't work very well at all unless it is in pretty much "free space".

Anything with legs is pretty much out then. What about a Gainmaster or Imax 2000?

To cover CB and 10m without fooling yourself you need 2 antennas. Not wideband dummy load.

Sorry for the delay. Yes that's about the size I have to pay, it an old house with a back yard, if I go over a meter I will be over hanging next door,

I have to go upwards

Even so, a back yard that measures just over 3 feet long and 3 feet wide is a VERY small back yard :o :?

Depending on what is surrounding whatever space you have (ie other buildings etc) and how close they are to this small square of space, a simple 1/2 wave "Silver Rod" type aerial (no ground-planes to worry about) might be one answer. It would benefit hugely from being mounted as high up as you can, on a scaffolding pole for example.

it looking that ways, due to trees, in our garden and next door, and how the houses where built back them,

it also rules a beam out, unless it goes sideways and is fix, but it would be beam at the house, unless it was just to waves poles of no more than say 2 meters running across the shed and cole bunker. but that would be fixed to.

Sorry for the deal

that is looking like the way to go, with a ATU, been told that I can or it possible to tune down to 20 with one.

But do not know if this is fact,

Putting one on a pump up mast may do the trick.

Thank You Ch25

In all fairness,I know everyone takes the **** out of the Silver Rod.But,at the end of the day,it is an end fed di-pole which you can tune to match your ground plane i.e;mounting mast.Okay it may not do the job as well as the more expensive home base antenna's but, from experience,s.w.r it once and never touch it again.Good for a small plot with no garden as such and they are as cheap as chips.I run one static mobile on a drive on plate.Park up,chuck it up and Hello DX station. The higher you can mount it,the better though being a 1/2 wave radiation.
