Smallest SSB capable set?

Post by ghost123uk »

With my new vehicle, I won't be able to fit anything like my Stalker 9FDX, or indeed anything close, such as the new President Grant etc.
I've had a quick scout around, but cannot find any "new generation" sets that are both small AND have SSB. Any suggestions folk?

Yeticom optima and the magnum 257 are the same size as the ss9900 and are very good reliable radios ,the 9900 does suffer from power outputs failing mainly because they are run full power on fm..

Icom 706MK2 with remote head and gubbins in the boot. I have mine Bluetac'd to the centre console. Has a local headphone jack and a mic plug on remote head, so a single cable needs run. Can even be mounted on a mobile phone suction-cup screen mount jobby..... should tick a lot of boxes in terms of easy access. Older versions of the same radio can also be found a bit cheaper than the MK2g, i you're only bothered about 11m that is

The 706 is overpriced and old and generally a crap rig - not worth more than £100-£150 for a MK1 and around the £200-£250 for a MKII.
For some bizarre reason they seem to fetch hollywood money on Ebay and the like....

Your options are only limited to the size of your passenger seat. I haven't permanently fitted a radio to any of my cars for 30 years, get the right connections in there and it takes less than a minute to get it going and uncouple for removal too.
